Cameron Smith will join the James Madison men's basketball team for the 2017-18 campaign, Head Coach
Louis Rowe announced on Friday afternoon.

Smith, a 6-7, 210-pound forward, joins the Dukes after a pair of seasons at Florida International. He appeared in 48 of a possible 63 contests at FIU, averaging 12.6 minutes per game and making 13 starts. The Tallahassee, Fla. native also made his presence felt on the defensive end, racking up 31 blocks in that time.

Prior to his two years at FIU, Smith was a standout at Tallahassee Community College, where he bounced back from a season-ending injury in 2013-14 to average 9.3 points, a team-high 6.5 boards and 1.9 blocks across 22 contests in 2014-15. For his efforts, Smith was named Second Team All-Panhandle Conference and to the Panhandle Conference All-Freshman Team.

"Cameron is going to be a very athletic player in the post for us," Rowe said. "He brings presence, leadership and depth at a crucial position and he's a great kid that the JMU family can be proud of. We're very excited for him to join us in Harrisonburg."

Smith's signing, along with the addition of
Alex Schulz as a walk-on, the Dukes' 2017-18 roster is now up to 13 student-athletes, as the duo join five incoming freshmen and a pair of junior college transfers, all of whom are immediately eligible in the fall.

JMU returns two starters from its 2016-17 campaign and will add guard
Stuckey Mosley and forward
Gerron Scissum, who each redshirted this past season after transferring from Toledo and VCU, respectively.
