WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Multiple top-five finishes and two new entries into the record books highlighted day two of the Colonial Relays for the James Madison track & field time at Zable Stadium on Friday.
FreshmanÂ
Olivia Viparina placed third out of 36 runners in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:45.48 to qualify for the Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) Outdoor Championships. The time was good enough for third on the program's all-time top-10 list, placing Viparina behind only JMU Athletics Hall of Famer Mollie DeFrancesco (9:56.07) and Nelly Anderson (10:18.97).
Joining her teammate with a historical performance of her own was juniorÂ
Carol Strock, who completed the 1,500-meter seeded race with a time of 4:23.39 to set a personal record and place third out of 56 athletes. The effort moved Strock from 10th to fifth in program history for the event and qualified her for the ECAC Outdoor Championships as well.
Also impressing was sophomoreÂ
Madeleine McCarty, who ran a 2:15.41 in the 800-meter run to make it three Dukes finishing third in their respective events on the day. FreshmanÂ
Erica Jackson competed in the race as well, coming in just behind McCarty in seventh place with a time of 2:16.17.
Another duo faring well were freshmanÂ
Meredith Willis (24.83 seconds) and juniorÂ
Kennedy King (24.88 seconds), who placed 13th and 19th, respectively, out of 108 competitors respectively in the 200-meter dash.
SophomoreÂ
Gina Bischof's 1:04.45 to place 18th out of 78 runners in the 400-meter hurdles andÂ
Annie Johnson's 12.25 to finish 15th out of 92 runners in the 100-meter dash rounded out the Dukes' strong performances on the day.
With 13 events scored thus far, JMU sits in 15th out of 36 scoring teams with 14 total points. The Dukes return to action tomorrow morning when the running of the 5,000-meter run finals begins the day at 9:40 a.m.
MEET INFORMATIONThe William & Mary-hosted meet features 63 teams in total, 60 of which field a women's team. 43 of those teams, including James Madison, compete at the Division I level.
