WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - A young core of athletes from the James Madison track & field team began competition in the 2016 Colonial Relays at Zable Stadium on Thursday evening.Â
The William & Mary-hosted meet features 63 teams in total, 60 of which field a women's team. 43 of those teams, including James Madison, compete at the Division I level.Â
Sophomore
Nora Raher led the Dukes in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 10:03.98 to place eighth out of 54 runners. Following close behind was freshman
Erin Saunders who finished 11th with a time of 10:11.88. Freshmen
Jackie O'Shea (10:43.99) and
Nicole Harrison (10:57.41) rounded out the group in the 3K.
Also representing the Dukes on the night were freshmen
Sidra Morris and
Laquell Harris. Out of 30 throwers, Morris placed 18th in the hammer throw with a distance of 121'6" (37.03 meters) while Harris achieved a distance of 105'9" (32.23 meters).
Madison returns to action tomorrow morning for day two of the Colonial Relays get rolling at 9 a.m.
