HAMPTON, Va. - Senior midfielder
Ashley Herndon added to her long list of honors on Tuesday afternoon, earning a spot on the 2016 Virginia Sports Information Directors Women's Soccer All-State University Division First Team.
Â
Herndon, who graduated early in December to pursue opportunities in professional soccer, led the high-powered JMU offense in goals (11), points (28), shots (82), shots on goal (35) and game-winning goals (5) in 2016, taking home JMU's first CAA Player of the Year honors sinceÂ
Corky Julien in 2008.
Â
Adding to her 2016 exploits, Herndon continued her march up the JMU career leaderboards in her final season at JMU. She concludes her career fourth all-time in program history in career goals (37), fifth in assists (27) and third in points (101) after becoming just the fourth Duke to ever rack up 100 points in her career.
Â
Virginia senior midfielder Alexis Shaffer was named VaSID Player of the Year, while Liberty swept the remaining individual awards, with Nate Norman capturing Coach of the Year honors and forward Gabrielle Farrell taking home VaSID Rookie of the Year.
Â
The Dukes went 9-11 in 2016, a campaign that included a 5-4 mark in conference play and the program's fourth consecutive trip to the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals. Five players were named All-CAA, highlighted by Herndon and freshman
Haley Crawford garnering CAA Player of the Year and CAA Rookie of the Year honors, respectively.
