HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – James Madison softball fell short of the series against Marshall as the Dukes dropped an 8-4 game on Sunday at Dot Hicks Field.

The Dukes fell to 24-16 with a 9-9 mark in Sun Belt play, while the Thundering Herd advanced to 38-7, sitting at 13-3 in league competition.

Kylah Berry worked six innings in the circle for JMU where she noted three strikeouts, yielded four walks, and allowed ten hits.

How It Happened:
- Marshall scored first in the bottom of the first inning due to a JMU throwing error.
- Mathis tied the game at one run after she singled in the top of the third to score redshirt junior Reed Butler.
- The Thundering Herd regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning from an RBI ground out.
- In the top of the fourth, sophomore Abbie Campbell reached on an infield single and plated Hallie Hall to tie the game at 2.
- Shifflett slammed a solo shot in the top of the fifth to give the Dukes a 3-2 lead.
- Down 3-2, Marshall produced six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with a two-run home run, RBI single, and a three-run home run to left field.
- Mathis slugged a solo shot in the top of the seventh to keep JMU's hopes alive, but the Dukes could not complete the comeback.Â
