Dukes Split Day One of Carolina Classic

Chapel Hill, N.C. - James Madison softball earned a split on Friday at day one of the Carolina Classic, defeating North Carolina 7-1, after falling to Purdue 4-0 at Anderson Softball Stadium.

James Madison moves to 9-4 while Purdue improves to 9-6 and UNC falls to 8-11.

James Madison struggled to compete with Purdue's offense, falling four runs short of a victory.

Purdue got off to a hot start by plating two runs in the top of the second inning.
Â
Sophomore Rebecca Muh got the start for James Madison, but her day ended after the third inning. Freshman Kylah Berry went the rest of the way for the Dukes in the circle. Berry recorded three strikeouts, gave up two walks, and only allowed two runs.

James Madison tallied two hits during the game from freshmen Bella Henzler and Kate Carrier.

In the fifth inning, the Boilermakers sealed the deal by adding two runs from a home run and an error to extend their lead to four runs.

JMU 7, UNC 1
Offense was not a problem during the Dukes second game of the day against North Carolina.

Sophomore Jasmine Hall had an impressive offensive outing for James Madison. She homered in the third inning to put the Dukes up by one and then smashed a bases-clearing double in the fourth to increase the lead to four runs.

Junior Alissa Humphrey had yet another dominate performance in the circle for James Madison, tallying 11 strikeouts and two walks recording her fourth complete game of the season.

Graduate student Avery Pinder, sophomore Lexi Rogers and freshman Bella Henzler all added two hits in the victory.

The Dukes rematch against both teams tomorrow morning beginning at 11 a.m. against Purdue and then followed by UNC at 1:30 p.m
