Chapel Hill, N.C. - James Madison softball earned a split on Friday at day one of the Carolina Classic, defeating North Carolina 7-1, after falling to Purdue 4-0 at Anderson Softball Stadium.

James Madison struggled to compete with Purdue's offense, falling four runs short of a victory.

Rebecca Muh got the start for James Madison, but her day ended after the third inning. Freshman
Kylah Berry went the rest of the way for the Dukes in the circle. Berry recorded three strikeouts, gave up two walks, and only allowed two runs.

In the fifth inning, the Boilermakers sealed the deal by adding two runs from a home run and an error to extend their lead to four runs.

Jasmine Hall had an impressive offensive outing for James Madison. She homered in the third inning to put the Dukes up by one and then smashed a bases-clearing double in the fourth to increase the lead to four runs.

Alissa Humphrey had yet another dominate performance in the circle for James Madison, tallying 11 strikeouts and two walks recording her fourth complete game of the season.
