Dukes Fall to Charleston in Heartbreaker

The Dukes drop to 17-13, 4-4 while the Cougars move to 17-12, 6-2.
Redshirt senior Liam McDonnell started for the Dukes and went 2.2 innings, striking out three while giving up four runs, two earned. Redshirt sophomore Chase DeLauter led at the plate by going 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two walks. His four hits tied a career-high.
How It Happened
After two quiet innings, the Dukes led off the third inning with a single, a hit by pitch, and a walk to load the bases for redshirt junior Kyle Novak. He then found land in left field to score redshirt juniors Trevon Dabney and Nick Zona for a 2-0 lead.
Charleston then responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-2 lead. JMU quickly responded, as redshirt junior Travis Reifsnider led off the fourth inning with his sixth home run of the season. Novak then knocked in a run on a single and another run scored on a fielding error to make the score 5-4.
The Cougars retook the lead in the sixth with a pair of runs, taking the lead 6-5. The Dukes responded in the next half inning again, this time scoring four runs in the top of the seventh. After freshmen Fenwick Trimble and Ryan Dooley got on, Reifsnider laced a double into left center, his career-high tying third hit of the game, to give the Dukes a 7-6 lead. Redshirt sophomore Mason Dunaway then singled in Reifsnider, before scoring himself on a Dabney single to make the score 9-6.
Aided by a fielding error, the Cougars were able to score four runs in the ninth, capping the 10-9 win with a walk off single. Emmett Bice recorded his first collegiate win.
Game Notes
- Two Dukes were a hit shy of the cycle, as Chase DeLauter was missing a home run and Travis Reifsnider needed a triple.
