Â
The Dukes are now on a four-game win streak and move to 13-9, 2-0 CAA, while the Blue Hens fall to 10-10, 0-2 CAA.
Â
Redshirt senior Liam McDonnell got the nod on the mound, moving his record to 4-0 behind six innings as he only allowed one run and struck out four. At the plate, redshirt junior Trevon Dabney led the Dukes by going 2-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, two RBI's, and three runs scored.
Â
How It Happened
After redshirt sophomore Chase DeLauter got the Dukes on the board in the first inning with a no doubt two-run blast, JMU put up nine runs in the second inning.
Â
After a leadoff single by redshirt junior Travis Reifsnider and then a hit by pitch to classmate Jensen Lapoint, redshirt junior Nick Zona singled to the pitcher to score Reifsnider ahead of Lapoint who came around on a Delaware throwing error. Dabney then hit an RBI double to score Zona to make it 5-0. Three batters later, redshirt junior Carson Bell came up with the bases loaded and drew a walk to bring a runner in. The Dukes then used three straight singles from freshman Fenwick Trimble, Reifsnider, and redshirt sophomore Mason Dunaway to score three more runs and make the score 9-0. Trimble then scored on a wild pitch and the inning was capped off by Lapoint scoring a run on an RBI groundout to give the Dukes an 11-0 lead after two innings.
Â
In the fourth inning, the Dukes added another run after Dunaway led off by getting hit by a pitch and stealing second. Dabney then hit his second RBI double of the game three batters later to make it 12-0.
Â
Delaware was able to score a pair of runs in the sixth on a double and a sacrifice fly, cutting the lead to 12-2. In the ninth, redshirt junior Kyle Novak would hit a double, scoring Dabney to make it 13-2.
Â
After McDonnell's six innings, redshirt freshman Michael Stewart came on and tossed a career-high three innings of relief. The Blue Hens would add two in the bottom of the ninth inning to make it 13-4, but Stewart would find the final out to earn his first career save.
