The Blue Hens (17-20, 5-6 CAA) took a 2-0 lead into the second inning of the opening contest, but JMU (36-6, 9-2 CAA) stormed back to cap a 10-2 victory in five innings. The Dukes continued to flex their offensive strength in game two, ending the game in five innings with a 13-1 triumph.
Senior infielder Niki Prince reached base in all six of her plate appearances as she went 5-for-5 with a walk. Prince scored four runs and led the team with six RBIs after notching three extra-base hits. Senior infielder Madyson Moran tallied five hits over the doubleheader to score a team-leading five runs. Moran also added three RBIs. Junior infielder Morgan Tolle knocked three hits and two RBIs to extend her hit streak to 21 consecutive games.
Junior Megan Good started both contests, earning two victories to improve to 26-1 in the circle. Over six innings, Good allowed two runs off five hits while striking out seven. Freshman Odicci Alexander and sophomore Jackie Tremain combined for four innings of scoreless relief over the doubleheader slate.
The Blue Hens struck first in Friday's opening contest with a two-RBI double to take a 2-0 lead into the second inning, but JMU answered in the top of the second. After senior outfielder Taylor Newton reached on a hit by pitch, doubles from Alexander and Prince brought home two runs to tie the game.
Tolle knocked the third double of the inning to drive home two runs before pinch hitter junior Jessica Mrozek drove in a run on her ground out to second to put JMU up 5-2 after two. Moran extended JMU's lead to 6-2 in the top of the third with a solo home run to left field.
After back-to-back, one-out singles from Newton and Alexander to lead off the fourth, Moran doubled to left center before Prince slugged a home run to left to push the lead to 10-8. Alexander took over in the circle in the bottom of the fourth and tossed two innings of scoreless relief to secure JMU's 10-2 victory.
JMU was the first to strike in Friday's second contest. After Tolle reached on an error and freshman outfielder Cambry Arnold singled to first, Good helped herself with a RBI single up the middle. Newton homered to left field to drive JMU's lead to 4-0.
A double from Moran and an infield single by Prince put two on with one out for freshman infielder Madison Naujokas. A Delaware error on her sacrifice bunt attempt allowed two runs to score before Arnold's single to shortstop plated a run to give JMU a 7-0 advantage.
In the top of the fourth, Prince's triple and freshman catcher Kate Gordon's double plate three runs to push the lead to 10-0. Mrozek extended the lead to 11-0 with an RBI double to right center before Good knocked a RBI single to cap a five-run fourth inning.
JMU plated its final run of the game in the top of the fifth on a Delaware fielding error. The Blue Hens avoided the shutout with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, but the rally fell short as JMU won 13-1.
