Dukes Rise to Seventh in NFCA Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – James Madison improved one spot to seventh in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released Tuesday afternoon. The marks the 12th straight week that JMU has been ranked in the top 10 as they improved to 43-4 on the season and 18-1 in Colonial Athletic Association
The Dukes closed the regular season with a two-game sweep over Hofstra on May 7 at Veterans Memorial Park. Senior pitcher and CAA Pitcher of the Week Jailyn Ford tossed a one-hitter, lifting James Madison to a 4-0 win in game one. Senior outfielder Hannah Hayes led the Dukes with two RBIs in game two as JMU claimed a 7-1 decision in the regular season finale.
Top-seeded JMU captured the 2016 CAA regular season title and the right to host the CAA Tournament on May 10-13 at Veterans Memorial Park. The Dukes will open their tournament when they play the winner of No. 4 Elon vs. No. 5 Delaware on Wednesday, May 11 at 2:30 p.m.
Florida remained atop the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll, receiving 31 first place votes with a 52-4 record. Michigan held on to second with a 44-4 record and one first place vote, while the third and fourth spots remained unchanged as No. 3 Oregon improved to 42-7 and No. 4 Alabama jumped to 45-11. Oklahoma rose two spots, rounding out the top five with a 45-7 record.
