JMU Remains No. 7 in NFCA Poll With First-Place Vote

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – James Madison remains No. 7 in the latest USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Tuesday. The Dukes received one first-place vote as they were the only team to go undefeated in week eight of the poll.
JMU moved to 30-2 on the season and 6-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association after shutting out its opponents in four of the five games last week. The .938 winning percentage is best in the nation in Division I softball while the Dukes also rank third with a 1.38 team earned run average.
Sophomore Megan Good was named the CAA Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row after earning one win over Virginia and all three wins against Towson, including two shutout performances. The four wins give her 19 for the season, moving her into the national lead. She recorded a season-high 13 strikeouts in the series finale against the Tigers while only allowing one hit in the 3-0 victory.
Junior infielder Madyson Moran led the Dukes with five RBIs on four hits including a double and a home run. Â As a team, the Dukes recorded a team-high five home runs in the 11-6 win in game two against the Tigers.
Michigan claimed the top spot in the poll for the first time this season after receiving 17 first-place votes with a 27-3 record. Florida slid to second with a 34-3 record, receiving 10 top votes. Auburn remained in third (33-4) with two first-place votes, Alabama jumped two spots to fourth (31-7) also with two top votes. Louisianna-Lafayette held onto fifth to round out the top five.
In addition, JMU held the sixth spot and received a first place vote in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
James Madison hits the road in a midweek doubleheader against Virginia Tech on Wednesday, April 6 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Tech Softball Park in Blacksburg, Va before heading to Charleston to take on the Cougars in a CAA series April 9-10.
