RALEIGH, N.C. - A new entry into the school record books and multiple Eastern College Athletic Association (ECAC) qualifying marks highlighted the first day of the 2016 Raleigh Relays for the James Madison track & field team on Friday at the Dail Track Complex. The Raleigh Relays represented the beginning of JMU's outdoor season after the Virginia Cup was cancelled due to inclement weather last week. The meet, which is hosted by N.C. State, features 2,306 individual entries and 254 from more than 100 schools from around the country.
In the final event of the day, senior Kathleen Stewart etched her name in the record books with a time of 34:26.52 in the 10,000-meter run to place fifth out of 38 runners. Stewart's time also qualified her for the 2016 ECAC Outdoor Championships.

She clocked a time of 14.12 seconds, to place 13th out of 50 competitors. That performances eclipsed her previous best of 14.13 seconds, set at the ECAC Championships, and easily surpassed the necessary ECAC-qualifying time of 14.54.
Sophomore Kennedy King leapt 5.76 meters while competing in the women's long jump invitational to place sixth out of 15 student-athletes and joined Stewart and Scott on the list of ECAC qualifiers after surpassing the required mark of at least 5.70 meters.
