SCOUTING THE PRIDE

Hofstra, the overwhelming choice at the top of the CAA Preseason Poll, has won six of its last seven games to improve to 12-5 (4-1 CAA) on the season and is coming off a hard-fought, 69-61 win over Drexel in Hempstead on Thursday evening.
The Pride is perfect at home this season, rolling to a 6-0 record at the Mack Sports Complex and picking up conference wins against Delaware and Drexel on its home floor.
Senior guard Juan'ya Green, the Preseason CAA Player of the Year, paces the high-powered Hofstra offense, as his 17.2 ppg leads the way for five Hofstra players who average in double digits. Green also scored his 2,000th career point on Thursday. Senior forward Ameen Tanksley, a First Team Preseason All-CAA pick, chips in 16.1 ppg and 5.4 rpg.

SERIES HISTORY

JMU has faced Hofstra 24 times in the all-time series between the two squads, with all 24 contests coming after the Pride joined the Colonial Athletic Association prior to the 2001-02 season.
The Dukes have won four of the 11 contests in Hempstead, including two of the last three. JMU earned a 69-63 win last season on Jan. 24 and downed the Pride in a 62-60 nailbiter on Dec. 3, 2011.
Although JMU swept the regular-season series last year, Hofstra captured the more important win, handing the Dukes a 74-57 loss in the CAA quarterfinals to end JMU's title hopes. Then-junior Ron Curry led the Dukes with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists, while then-sophomore Dimitrije Cabarkapa tallied a career-high 12 points, all in the first half.

LAST TIME OUT

James Madison sprinted out to a 15-point halftime lead and held off a second-half charge from Northeastern to earn a 75-63 win over the Huskies in Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball action at Matthews Arena on Jan. 14.
The Dukes, who moved to 13-5 (3-2 CAA) with the victory, shot a red-hot 66.7% (16-for-24) from the field in the opening period, a mark that included a remarkable 63.6% (7-for-11) clip from behind the arc. Northeastern fell to 11-7 (3-2 CAA) with its second consecutive loss.
JMU also performed admirably on the defensive end yet again, holding the Huskies to 19-for-53 (35.8%) shooting on the evening, including a 5-for-27 mark on three-pointers. The display marked the sixth time in eight games in which the Dukes held an opponent under 36% shooting from the field.
