James Madison's football spring game highlights a full weekend of activities in Harrisonburg, perfect for a JMU Spring Getaway. Fans are invited back to experience campus in the full bloom of spring and take in JMU baseball, softball and football games as well as Downtown Harrisonburg activities on April 25 and 26.
The JMU football program will conclude its 2015 spring practices with the spring game on April 25. The game will be played at Bridgeforth Stadium at 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. For the first time, fans will be encouraged to tailgate before the game. Starting at 10 a.m., both Godwin Field and G-Lot will be available on a first come, first served basis for parking and tailgating. The University Outpost Fan Zone will be open from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., offering entertainment for children with inflatables and face painting by JMU cheerleaders. An open house viewing of the Bridgeforth Club Level will be available and Aramark will offer concessions inside the stadium.
The spring game will offer the first chance for JMU fans to see the 2015 Dukes in action. The game will be Purple versus Gold in a traditional game with a unique scoring system. Offenses and defenses for both teams will have scoring opportunities on each side of the ball. The offense will gain points from first downs and scoring, while the defense will tally points from stopping the offense from moving the football as well as turnovers, safeties and touchdowns.
Also hosting home games on April 25 and 26 will be the nationally-ranked JMU Softball team. Led by All-American Jailyn Ford and freshman standout Megan Good, the Dukes are currently riding a school-record 18-game win streak. Stop by Veterans Memorial Park for games vs. Elon at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Baseball will be amidst a three-game stand against the Towson Tigers and will also host home games on April 24-26. Celebrate a recognition of Head Coach Spanky McFarland, who will retire after this season. The Diamond Dukes play at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and then at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
There are also a number of activities in and around Harrisonburg that weekend, highlighted by the annual Rocktown Beer Festival in Downtown Harrisonburg, starting Saturday afternoon.
