Dukes Battle on Day One of ITA Atlantic Regionals

LYNCHBURG, Va. – James Madison women's tennis battled through the qualifying singles bracket and the doubles main draw on the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Regionals. Junior Timea Guibe and freshman Bella Heidenreich won in doubles action to advance to the round-of-32 on Friday.
Guibe and Heidenreich battled to a tiebreaker win over Old Dominion's Ingrid Vojcinakova and Ivana Vukovic in the doubles round-of-64, taking down the Monarchs 8-7(5). The duo will face Virginia's Julia Elbaba and Skylar Morton in the next round.
Sophomore Kimmy Herrock and freshman Abby Amos each won their round-of-32 match-ups in the qualifying singles draw. Herrock defeated VCU's Sofia Segerfors in straight 6-1 sets and Amos took down Radford's Natalie Sayer in straight 6-4 sets to advance to the round-of-16. Both dropped their second qualifying matches of the day as Herrock took a difficult two-set loss to Virginia Tech's Katherine Butler (6-4, 7-5) and Amos was forced to retire in the third set against Liberty's Emily Groeneveld (3-6, 6-3, 3-1).
Freshman Emma Petersen rebounded after dropping a three-set match (6-0, 3-6, 7-5) to Liberty's Anna Dollar in qualifying singles, earning a two-set victory (6-3, 6-4) over West Virginia's Lyn Yuen Choo in a consolation match.
Doubles action continues on day two of the event while the main singles draw gets underway in Lynchburg, Va.

"Today had its ups and downs. We competed very hard and put ourselves in excellent positions to win matches. However, we did not execute on the crucial points. With a young team, this happens, but I know we will learn from our mistakes and rebound well. The Atlantic region is very tough, and we have to be ready to be challenged in every match."
