BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Dukes went 3-1 in the qualifying singles bracket on day one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Regional tournament.
Junior Miljan Ruzicwent 2-0 in back-to-back three-set showdowns on Thursday to earn a spot in the main singles draw beginning on Friday. His first victory came against George Washington's Jabari Stafford in the round-of-32, battling to a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 win. He secured a second win on the day when he came from behind to defeat Conor Moran 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-1 in the round-of-16.
Freshman Tristan Stittbegan his first ITA tournament with a two-set win (6-4, 6-2) over Liberty's David Bush in the round-of-32 qualifiers. In the round-of-16, he took a one-set lead over Temple's Vladamir Dorash with a 6-4 win to start the match, but Dorash won sets two (6-0) and three (6-4) to take the victory and advance to the main draw.
The Dukes continue their run through the ITA Atlantic Regionals on Friday in Blacksburg, Va.
