RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 3, 2007 -- James Madison women's basketball player Dawn Evans (Clarksville, Tenn./Northeast) has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the week ending Dec. 2.
The freshman point guard earned the honor for the third time in four weeks.(The only week she was not selected, JMU did not play a game.)
Evansaveraged 19.5 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals and shot 53.8 percent (14-26) from the field, 72.7 percent (8-11) from the three-point arc and 75.0 percent (3-4) from the foul line in two JMU home wins last week.
That included 19 points in a 80-55 victory over nationally-ranked (#14 USA Today/ESPN, #16 AP) George Washington on Nov. 27.She then contributed a game-high 20 points in only 26 minutes in an 85-46 win over Savannah State on Nov. 30.
With last week's home victories JMU extended the longest active home winning streak in NCAA Division I to 30 games.JMU takes a 6-0 record into a Dec. 4 game at Liberty.
