HARRISONBURG, Va., July 26, 2010 -- JMU Director of Athletics Jeff Bourne has announced the extension of cross country coach Dave Rinker's contract through 2014.
Rinker, who is entering his 12th year at JMU, has had six NCAA national championship qualifiers in the past nine seasons.
His teams have been competitive in the Colonial Athletic Association, winning the CAA title four times (1999-02) and finishing second six times (2003-05, 2007-09).
Rinker has been selected CAA coach of the year five times (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004).
His 2009 team was ranked sixth in the final in Southeast Region coaches poll, and Alison Parris received an at-large invitation to compete in the NCAA National Championships.
In 2009 the CAA named six former JMU runners to its 25-member 25th Anniversary Team, and all six of those ran for Rinker: Mollie DeFrancesco (JMU '03), Cindy Dunham ('03), Bethany Eigel ('00), Heather Hanscom ('01), Shannon Saunders ('06) and Dena Spickard ('08).
