As a sophomore: Redshirted 2009 after transferring from Virginia... invited to Cape Cod League for summer by the Brewster Whitecaps, but injuries prevented any game appearances.
Before JMU: Played for Tim Lowery and the Post 137 South Richmond American Legion team...played high school for the Clover Hill Cavaliers...junior year was named first-team all-district pitcher, second-team all-region pitcher, and second-team all-metro pitcher...named team M.V.P. junior year...senior year was named third-team All-American by Baseball America, Rawlings, and Perfect Game...was drafted in the 35th round by the Boston Red Sox... began his collegiate career at Virginia in 2008... appeared in two games for the Cavaliers (Coppin St., Cornell), throwing a total of 1 1/3 innings as a freshman.
Personal: Son of Karen and Donald Tierney...enjoys playing football and basketball, playing video games, and watching movies...marketing major.

Why did you choose JMU?
I chose JMU because of the combination of great academics and athletics.
What is your major/minor and why did you choose it?
Major is Kinesiology with a Minor in Business.
What are your goals for the 2010 season?
Win the CAA championship, win a Regional, go to a Super Regional tournament
What are your hobbies or interests off the field?
Football, basketball, golf, scuba diving, watching movies, and hanging out with friends
What has been most memorable JMU baseball moment thus far?
David Herbek's walk off home run against Longwood last year
What is the best advice you have received?
Treat others the way you wish to be treated.
What advice would you give a prospective recruit?
Really look into where you are going to commit because sometimes everything isn't what it seems.
Do you have a special pre-game ritual or tradition that you always follow?
Listen to my iPod and focus on what I plan to do during the game

Play professional baseball
