HARRISONBURG, Va. - The historic opening of Bridgeforth Stadium on September 10 also marked the debut of the Downtown Dining Alliance Hospitality Tent. The Downtown Dining Alliance signed a four-year agreement earlier this year to sponsor the tent from 2011 through the 2014 football season. In all, 24 downtown businesses will be participating as vendors this season, with 12 to 15 rotating per game.
The first game menu was extensive, including items from grilled pork tenderloin and turkey club sandwiches, to vegetable dumplings and ice cream. The reviews from patrons visiting the DDA Tent were more than complimentary.
"Over the past twenty years I have attended football games at Old Dominion, William & Mary, Richmond, East Carolina, UVA, Virginia Tech, and Maryland as the guest of various season ticket holders," one patron said. "I can truthfully state that none of those programs can begin to compare to what JMU offered this past weekend. The hospitality tent that was catered by the Downtown Dining Alliance was superb. I have always been impressed by what has been offered there, but the addition of the Downtown Dining Alliance elevated this to another level. The food and drinks were amazing, and it was such a pleasure to talk to the various vendors and learn more about some of the new restaurants located in Harrisonburg."
"The hospitality tent was incredible," praised another Duke Club donor, who also saw the tent as a symbol of progress. "It goes to show you how far this community has come in connecting with JMU."
For the season opener the DDA Tent was catered by Beyond, Union Station, Shank's Bakery, Billy Jack's, Jack Brown's, Joshua Wilton House, Pennybackers, Clementine Café, Local Chop & Grill House, Dave's Taverna, Friendly City Co-Op, Arepara Las Chamas and Kline's Dairy Bar.
