Duke Club Announces Partnership with Downtown Dining Alliance
James Madison University Athletics and the Duke Club are pleased to announce a hospitality partnership with the Downtown Dining Alliance for the 2011 football season. The Duke Club is the fundraising arm for JMU Athletics, raising funds in support of student-athlete scholarships and the general operating budget. Duke Club members at the Gold Level ($1,000+ annually) enjoy pre-game appetizers and beverages at every home football contest. The partnership will provide JMU with catering for every game, collectively provided by members of the Downtown Dining Alliance.
"We are extremely happy and excited about this agreement and what it means for our fans," Assistant Athletic Director for Development David Biancamano said. "It will only add to an already fun and festive game day experience at JMU. Having well-known establishments in Harrisonburg serving food at every game really makes for something special."
The Downtown Dining Alliance (DDA) was established in 2009 as a unique way to collectively market the twenty-four downtown Harrisonburg restaurant and eateries.
"Everyone with the Downtown Dining Alliance is extremely excited about this program," Dave Miller, owner of Dave's Downtown Taverna said. "When we formed the Downtown Dining Alliance, we were hoping to find ways in which our alliance could really make a difference in our community. Last year, we gave over $10,000 in food donations. This year, it looks like we will most likely get to $50,000 with this program. I know that, if we do this right, it will permanently solidify the relationship between the JMU community and downtown restaurants and other businesses."
With the 2011 home football schedule released and construction on Bridgeforth Stadium less than seven months from completion, this agreement signifies an increasing buzz in the community. "I fully expect this stadium to take the entire community to the next level of excitement," Miller noted. "I hope the Downtown Dining Alliance will help accentuate this transformation with our commitment to the hospitality tent."
As part of the agreement, the Duke Club Hospitality Tent will be renamed the Downtown Dining Alliance Hospitality Tent.
Participating members of the Downtown Dining Alliance include Beyond, Blue Nile, Cally's, Dave's Downtown Taverna, Earth and Tea Café, Finnigan's Cove, Jack Brown's, Joshua Wilton House, Kline's Dairy Bar, L&S Diner, Local Chop House, Mrs. Hardesty's Tea Room, Pennybackers, Pulp, Smokin' Pig, Stonewall Jackson Inn, and Union Station.
