Margaret and Doug Popik

How long have you been coming to JMU football games?
After graduation, we have been coming consistently since 2002 and attend as many away games as possible, especially Richmond and William & Mary.

What is your favorite JMU tradition?
There are many, but a favorite football tradition is the streamers. It is unique to JMU, everyone loves it, and it is especially fun to do at away games!

What are your favorite memories of Bridgeforth Stadium?

Two memories, same game. I will never forget the noise and pandemonium after Scotty McGee returned the second half kickoff in the Appalachian State game. Then, being on the field celebrating the victory against ASU on a beautiful September night as fireworks lit the night sky. I looked up at the scoreboard and thought, “This is special!”

Why do you support JMU?
There is a bond that all JMU alums share. It is a sense of community and a spirit that embodies everyone that is part of the JMU family. We love spending fall weekends on campus and at Bridgeforth Stadium.

Why did you make a gift to help build the stadium expansion project?
Bridgeforth Stadium is a place we gather with friends many times each fall to support the football team and reminisce about our incredible years at JMU. Recently we have been bringing our young kids to JMU for games and truly enjoy the atmosphere and spirit on game day. By giving to the stadium campaign, we are helping to further that experience for decades to come.

What would you say to others to let them know how important it is to support their alma mater?

There is a great sense of pride that comes with supporting JMU so future generations can experience what we did at JMU.

Margaret ('98, '99M, '01EDS) and Doug ('99) reside in Richmond with their three future Dukes; Elizabeth, Will and Baby Popik due in late June 2010.
