James Madison University fans and friends gathered Thursday, May 6 at Boulevard Wood Grill in Arlington to take part in the annual JMU Coaches Caravan, hosted by the NOVA/DC Chapter of the Duke Club. Steve Buckhantz, JMU alum and play-by-play announcer of the Washington Wizards, emceed the event much to the delight of the JMU faithful. Nearly 100 attendees turned out to show their support for the athletic programs and listen to coaches Mickey Matthews, Matt Brady, and Kenny Brooks. Each coach spoke about their completed seasons and what to look for in the upcoming year. Recently named starting QB Drew Dudzik, a rising senior, also addressed the eager crowd and expressed his appreciation for the fans and Duke Club members. Athletic Director Jeff Bourne and Deputy Athletic Director Geoff Polglase added the event as well, mingling with the crowd and sharing JMU stories.
As part of the event, the Duke Club held silent and live auctions, which raised $3,255 dollars for student-athlete scholarships and the general operating budget for athletics. The auction was highlighted by an authentic JMU football helmet autographed by Mickey Matthews, a weekend package for four at this year's homecoming, and a number of autographed memorabilia by other JMU coaches and former student-athletes. The NOVA/DC Duke Club Chapter would like to thank all those who attended.
