CAPITAL CAMPAIGN SPOTLIGHT - BERNIE DEAN
Bernie Dean is a JMU alumnus who has made a tradition out of coming back to JMU's campus for home football games and continues his support through being a member of the Duke Club.
How long have you been coming to JMU football games?
I have been coming to JMU games since 1974.
What is your favorite JMU tradition?
Favorite tradition is tailgating before and after the games.
What is your game-day attire?
Our game day attire is as much purple and gold as we can find.
Why do you support JMU?
I support JMU because we loved our JMU experience and have so many fond memories. I met my wife there and then years later our oldest daughter decided JMU was her choice too and we celebrated her years with her also which just served to reinforce our dedication to JMU.
What does 'giving back' mean to you?
Giving back means supporting the school that gave us so much. We have friends that we would have never met had it not been for our time there and memories that will never fade, they are only strengthened by returning back and reuniting.
Why did you make a gift to help build the stadium expansion project?
We made a gift because we are proud of where JMU football has come from sitting on the hill to hopefully sitting in a club seat soon.
What are your favorite memories of Bridgeforth Stadium?
My favorite memories of the stadium are coming from behind to actually beat Appalachian State and then being ranked #1 with home field playoff advantages.
