"It is a good thing I have always loved the color purple. Some say I bleed purple and it might be due to the fondness I have for JMU and all that is good about it. Some folks are saddened at the conclusion of the summer but for me it is excitement- knowing that attendance at events and battles of the best, tailgating, renewing friendships is just around the corner- followed by exciting courtside activities, dunks, 3 pointers, drives down the middle and the hospitality room where interaction with many supporters of JMU sports occurs. Being a part of the university athletics program and being on campus far outweighs the 2.5 hour drive each way even on weeknights to share in something bigger than reading the news afterwards. It only took one or two events to get me hooked into wanting to be involved with athletics. It probably started with hosting several coaches and athletics' office members to a friendly round of golf in our hometown of King George. That led to area gatherings with coaches and then regular attendance at JMU games, whether the season was going well or we were struggling. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to get to know some of the coaches, the student-athletes, the athletic staff, the Duke Club team, the ticket office team and many investors- donors to the Duke Club. There is such a pull to be part of the system now that my fall and winter is pretty much planned around attending home and away JMU games. The relationships developed with the wonderful people who support JMU have been a key part in wanting to continue to promote JMU athletics through time, energy and financial support. I challenge you all to give of yourself - you will receive so much more in return. The experience and ride has been tremendous all while wearing anything purple."
