HARRISONBURG, Va., Feb. 19, 2014 – Former James Madison men’s soccer standout Paul Wyatt has signed a professional contract with the Oklahoma City Energy, an expansion team in the USL Pro league.

Wyatt, a four-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection during his four seasons at JMU (2009-12), finished his prolific collegiate career with 28 goals and 11 assists in 73 games with the Dukes. He ranks 12th in goals on the program’s all-time list, while his 67 points rank 17th.

He was named to the NSCAA All-America second team following his junior season. He helped lead JMU to a 13-5-2 record and an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. The Dukes shut out Wake Forest in the opening round, before falling to fifth-ranked Connecticut in the quarterfinals. The Dukes were ranked as high as 12th during the regular season.

Wyatt also took part in one of the biggest wins in program history. He registered a shot on goal in JMU’s 1-0 win over top-ranked and defending NCAA champion North Carolina in front of 1,531 fans at University Park. JMU went on to beat Hofstra in the next game, setting a school record with its 15th-straight win at home.

"We are really happy for Paul and proud of him, as well,” said Tom Martin, the head coach at James Madison for the past 28 years. “He is very deserving and worked extremely hard for this opportunity. We wish him the very best.”

Oklahoma City has announced a one-year agreement as an affiliate of Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer. A former JMU teammate of Wyatt’s, C.J. Sapong, is entering his fourth season with Sporting KC. He was named the MLS Rookie of the Year in 2011 and helped the team win the 2013 MLS Cup.

The Energy will make their debut on the road against the Los Angeles Blues on April 5. The team’s home opener at Pribil Stadium is April 26 against defending USL Pro champion Orlando City SC.
