INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., March 23, 2013 – James Madison sophomore swimmer Sin Hye Won (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) continued her stay at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., Saturday, finishing 49th in the 200-yard breaststroke.

The NCAA Championships are being held at the IU Natatorium and IUPUI Sports Complex in Indianapolis, Ind., this week. Won is the first swimmer and second women’s swimming and diving athlete in school history to compete at the NCAA Championships. She joins senior diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) as the only members of the JMU Swimming and Diving team to compete in the NCAAs. Helfrich competed in both the one-meter and three-meter boards in the 2011 championship.

Won turned in a time of 2:15.22 to finish the swim 49th out of 52 participants. She holds the second-fastest time in school history in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.60, trailing only junior Kelsey Holmgaard (Roanoke, Va./George Mason). The sophomore established her mark at the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, last month.

Won’s performance at the NCAA Championship wraps the 2012-13 swimming and diving season for JMU. Madison finished second at last month’s CAA Championships, the third consecutive year they’ve finished second or better, including winning the 2012 title.
