JMU will play its second straight Colonial Athletic Association home game on Saturday against conference opponent Drexel. The game will be televised nationally on NBC Sports Network at 4 p.m.
The Dukes (8-8, 2-1 CAA) are coming off of their biggest win of the season after defeating UNCW 78-50 earlier this week. Wednesday's game brought JMU men's basketball home for the first time since December 16 and capped a slate of four games in eight days. The Dukes were 2-2 in those games, losing to Georgia State and Hampton but besting Old Dominion and the Seahawks.
For JMU, redshirt senior forward Rayshawn Goins has the hot hand. Goins has scored double-digit points in seven straight games now, dating back to a 23-point, 11-rebound effort against UNCG on December 16. He has three double-doubles in that time period, averaging 17.1 points and 9.1 rebounds.
Redshirt Senior guard A.J. Davis has quietly been productive since the beginning of December. Davis has averaged over 11 points since a 17-point outburst against East Tennessee State on December 5. He scored a season-high 18 in Las Vegas on December 22. Davis achieved his first career double-double Wednesday, registering 16 points behind 54.5 percent shooting. He also pulled down 10 rebounds.
Drexel (5-10, 1-2 CAA) lost guard Chris Fouch early in the season, but sophomore guard Damion Lee has been productive in his absence. Lee is averaging 18.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season for the Dragons. However, he is currently dealing with an injury of his own, and his status is uncertain for Saturday's game at JMU.
Drexel is a strong rebounding team, anchored by senior forward Daryl McCoy. His 8.8 rebounds per game is good for the fourth-best individual mark in the CAA. Drexel's overall rebounding margin is +4.9, third best in the CAA.
The Dragons have dropped two straight conference games to Northeastern and Towson, both of which are a perfect 3-0 in conference play and play a key showdown game on Saturday.
JMU has lost two straight games to Drexel, losing both contests last season. Its last home win over the Dragons was a 60-52 decision on January 26, 2011.
