ATHENS, Ga., Jan. 4, 2014 – Redshirt freshman Taryn McLaughlin (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and freshman Olivia Lehman (Dayton, Ohio/Centreville) each finished in the top 25 to highlight the day’s action for the James Madison diving team at the Georgia Diving Invitational at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga., Saturday.
McLaughlin scored a 281.75 on the three-meter board preliminaries Saturday morning to qualify for the finals in ninth. In the afternoon’s finals session, she scored 277.25 points to finish ninth overall in the event.
Lehman joined McLaughlin in the top 25, scoring 238.40 points to finish 25th. Sophomore Carly Alexander (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) claimed 38th with 211.95 points while freshman Katie Sheppard (Crozet, Va./Western Albermarle) finished in 49th by scoring 177.40 points.
Georgia’s Laura Ryan finished first on the three-meter board with a score of 332.40 while her teammate, Ann-Perry Blank finished in second (328.20). LSU’s Cassie Weil rounded out the top five in third with a score of 319.50.
The swimming and diving team returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Savage Natatorium as it hosts Georgetown and Gardner Webb for a double-dual meet. The meet will also be Senior Day as the swimming and diving team honors its five seniors prior to the meet.
