RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 19, 2013 – James Madison freshman swimmer Stephanie Clarke (South Riding, Va./Freedom) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week for her performance at the UVA Cavalier Invitational last weekend.
Clarke turned in three top-three finishes for the Dukes to help them claim the team win at the two-day tournament.
Clarke started her weekend with a third-place showing in the 200-yard backstroke, timing a 2:03.20. Her preliminary time of 2:02.35 is the third-fastest time in school history. She followed that up with a second-place showing in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 56.07 is the fourth-fastest time in the JMU record books.
Clarke concluded her solid weekend by claiming third in the 100-yard backstroke (57.76). In a separate time trial, she touched the wall in 56.27 second for the second-fastest time in school history.
JMU returns to action Feb. 27-March 2 at the CAA Championships as it looks to defend its title in Fairfax, Va.
