LONDON, Aug. 3, 2012 – Former James Madison freestyle swimmer Eva Hannesdottir (2010-2012) competed in the preliminary round of the 400-meter medley relay this morning for her home nation of Iceland at the 2012 Olympic Games in London this morning.
The former three-time Colonial Athletic Association champion swam the anchor leg for the team and turned in a 50-meter split of 26.78 seconds and a total time of 56.12 in heat two of the event.
The Icelandic team’s total time of 4:07.09 did not qualify for tomorrow evening's finals as they finished eighth in their heat.
Hannesdottir is the first swimmer in program history to qualify and swim at the Olympic Games. She is the reigning Icelandic National Champion in both the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle swimming events.
