BUFFALO, N.Y., March 9, 2012 – All three James Madison divers finished in the top seven in the one-meter board competition on day one of the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., on Friday.
Junior Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) was the top Madison finisher, claiming fourth on the one-meter with a total score of 556.85. She finished just ahead of freshman Alex Savage (Carrolton, Texas/Lewisville Hebron) in the preliminaries with a score of 273.85 and added a finals score 243.95 in the finals.
Savage came in sixth in her first career appearance at the NCAA Zone Meet, scoring a 243.95 in the finals for a two-round total of 517.80. Senior Nicole Jotso (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) came in seventh, scoring a 514.75. Jotso totaled a 243.10 in the prelims and followed that up with a 271.65 in the finals.
Virginia’s Tech’s Kaylea Arnett won the one-meter competition, scoring a 585.00. Maryland’s Alisha Kubratova came in second with a 571.90 while Connecticut’s Danielle Cecco claimed third with a 565.15. Virginia Tech’s Logan Kline rounded the top five, coming in fifth with a total of 550.35.
The Dukes return for day two of the Zone meet on Saturday as they take part in the 3-meter championships.
