AUSTIN, Texas, March 17, 2011 – James Madison sophomore diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) finished 24th in the one-meter board at the NCAA Championships in Austin Texas on Thursday.
The NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships are being held this weekend at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas.
Helfrich recorded a score of 263.00 during preliminaries of the one-meter to finish 24th of 37 divers.
The sophomore from Fort Belvoir, Va., is the first member of the JMU swimming and diving team to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Minnesota’s Kelci Bryant won the one-meter dive with a score of 349.65. Loren Figueroa of Missouri was second with a 335.30 while Margaret Hostage (327.65) of Stanford took third. Ohio State’s Bianca Alvarez (325.15) and Duke’s Abby Johnson (324.30) rounded out the top five.
The NCAA Diving Championships continue on Friday, March 18, at 1:30 p.m. with the preliminaries of the three-meter board. Finals begin at 7 p.m.
