RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 1, 2011 – For the third consecutive week, James Madison sophomore diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Diver of the Week.
Helfrich won the award after finishing first in the 3-meter dive and second in the 1-meter dive in last weekend’s meet against Richmond. After shattering the school record in the 3-meter the previous two week, the sophomore scored 335.60 on Saturday. It was the third-best score in school history.
In the 1-meter event, Helfrich recorded a 306.95 to finish runner-up to senior Jessie Everett (Arlington, Va./Yorktown). This season she has finished third or better 11 times.
This was the fourth time this season a JMU diver has garnered the conference’s weekly accolade. Everett won the award on Oct. 19 to go with Helfrich’s three-straight honors. Old Dominion’s Erla Haraldsdottir claimed CAA Swimmer of the Week.
The Dukes return to the pool this Saturday as they travel to Huntington, W.Va. to take on Marshall at 11 a.m.
