HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 25, 2011 – For the second time in as many weeks, James Madison sophomore diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Diver of the Week.
Helfrich won the three-meter dive and finished fourth in the one-meter dive while helping JMU to a split in a double-dual meet against Towson and Loyola (Md.) over the weekend. The Dukes beat Loyola 254-45 and were narrowly edged by three-time defending CAA champions Towson 156-144.
In the three-meter, Helfrich shattered the school record with a 377.70. She broke her own mark of 345.55 that she set the week prior in a double-dual meet against Georgetown and American. It was the best showing in the three-meter in the CAA this season.
Helfrich recorded a personal-best in the one-meter dive, recording a 300.15 to finish fourth. It was the third-best career-high in school history in that event.
This was the third time this season a JMU diver claimed the conference’s weekly accolades. Senior Jessie Everett (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) won the award on Oct. 19. UNC Wilmington’s Anna Munger was named the CAA’s Swimmer of the Week.
The Dukes return to the pool this Saturday in Richmond, Va. as they take on the University of Richmond at the Robins Center Natatorium at 4 p.m.
