HARRISONBURG, Va., Jan. 18, 2011 – James Madison sophomore diver Kimberly Helfrich (Fort Belvoir, Va./West Springfield) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Diver of the Week on Tuesday after leading JMU to a double-dual meet sweep last week.
Helfrich won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events to help the Dukes pick up wins over Georgetown (182-115) and American (223-60) last Saturday. In the three-meter dive, Helfrich shattered the previous school record, scoring a 345.55. The previous mark of 325.50 was held by senior Jessie Everett (Arlington, Va./Yorktown).
The sophomore scored a 300.35 in the one-meter to edge out junior teammate Nicole Jotso (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern).
Helfrich is the second JMU diver to claim CAA accolades this week, joining Everett who took home the honors on Oct. 19. George Mason’s Ashley Danner was named the conference’s Swimmer of the Week.
The Dukes return to the pool this weekend as they host three-time defending CAA champs Towson and Loyola (Md.) in a double-dual meet at Sinclair Gymnasium on Saturday.
