Former JMU soccer player Rachel Chupein
joined the JMU soccer staff as assistant coach in May 2009.

The 2009 JMU graduate was a team captain for the Dukes as a junior and senior, when the Dukes received at-large NCAA Tournament berths (2007, 2008).  JMU advanced to the NCAA round of 16 in 2008 and the round of 32 in 2007. 

During her playing career the Dukes compiled an overall record of 54-28-6.  That included a 17-5-1 record in 2007, when the team set school season records for wins, winning percentage (.761), fewest losses, regular-season wins (15) and home wins (12) as well as the record for consecutive games without a loss (9).

Chupein, a two-year starter on defense, was named to the Colonial Athletic Association all-tournament team in 2008.  She was voted the team's co-defensive most valuable player and was the recipient of the team's strength and conditioning award in 2008.  Chupein was a four-time winner of the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award and twice was named a JMU Athletic Director Scholar Athlete.

She also holds a NSCAA national coaching diploma.

A native of
West Chester, Pa., Chupein holds a bachelor's degree in marketing.  She is a graduate of West Chester East High School where she earned all-state and Chesmont District Player of the Year honors as a senior.
