RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 11, 2013 – After posting a game-high 24 points and a career-high 16 rebounds, James Madison women’s basketball senior guard Kirby Burkholder (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) earned the season’s first Colonial Athletic Association co-Player of the Week honors.
In the Dukes’ 63-46 win over Virginia on Friday night, Burkholder went 5-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-10 from 3-point range. She also connected on 10-of-12 free-throw attempts en route to becoming the 26th player in JMU women’s basketball history to eclipse 1,000-career points.
On defense, seven of Burkholder’s 16 rebounds game on the offensive end to help JMU outrebound the Cavaliers 49-26. She also added a block and a steal on the night for the Dukes.
Burkholder shares the honor with Northeastern’s A’lece Mark. The junior dropped in a career-high 28 points in the Huskies’ 73-62 win at Boston University.
JMU heads south for its first road game of the 2013-14 season as the Dukes take on Liberty this Tuesday (Nov. 12) at 7 p.m.
