HARRISONBURG, Va., June 18, 2013 – Six students from James Madison were among the 221 honored statewide by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) on the 2012-13 Academic All-State squad.
The student-athletes were recognized for their achievements on the field and in the classroom. Each state member institution, including NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and independents, had the opportunity to submit athletes to be honored. To be eligible, student-athletes were required to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better. The student must have achieved sophomore status, and he or she could not have been in the first season of competition at their current school. All athletes are either starters or key reserves for their team.
Three of the honorees, men’s soccer’s Adam Bastidas, women’s tennis’ Katherine Bulling and diver Kim Helfrich, were repeat honorees. Bastidas and Bulling were recipients of the 2012-13 JMU Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards.
