WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Oct. 7, 2012 -- The James Madison women's tennis team finished the three-day Tribe Invitational on Sunday with three athletes in their respective flight title matches.
Junior Ruxandra Andriescu (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/Turner Fenton) placed fifth in the Margie Waters Singles Flight after defeating Norfolk State's Laura Gutierrez 6-1, 6-2.
In the same flight, junior Jacqueline Palmucci (Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) lost in the championship match to Old Dominion's Nika Khmolovska. Khmolovska won set one 7-5, but Palmucci battled back to take set two 6-2. She ultimately fell in set three when Khmolovska outscored her 10-5.
The Kristine Kurth Singles flight championship and the Marion Gengler Singles flight third-place match were not played because two Dukes were scheduled to compete against one another in both match-ups.
JMU will travel north next weekend for the Navy Blue & Gold Invite in Annapolis, Md.
