HARRISONBURG, Va., Aug. 14, 2013 -- Coming off a historic first season and heading into his second school year as the James Madison softball coach, Mickey Dean is bringing in a large freshman class. The Dukes have 13 new players joining the roster this fall.

Over the next week, the team will announce a handful of players each day. Today’s newcomers are outfielder Anna Baker (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) and third baseman Carli Lemelin (Richmond, Va./Richmond).

Baker comes to JMU out of Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Va. She earned four varsity letters with the Knights while winning the Beach District Championship three times. As a sophomore, she attended Greenbrier Christian Academy and helped it to a VISSA State Championship. She played her club ball with the Virginia Legends.

Lemelin joins the Dukes out of Godwin High School in Richmond, Va. She is a two-time All-Colonial District selection. As a senior she was named team captain and twice was named Godwin’s Most Improved Player. She guided the Eagles to their first district championship and regional appearance in four years in 2013. Lemelin also played basketball at Godwin High School and played her club ball for the Richmond Storm.

Coach Dean and the Dukes announce the last two freshmen on Friday, Aug. 16.
