HARRISONBURG, Va., April 21, 2012 – Hofstra pitcher Olivia Galati struck out 12 batters in a shutout effort to lead her team to a 2-0 win over James Madison in the Colonial Athletic Association series opener at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday.

Game two of the series was delayed in the top of the sixth inning with Hofstra leading 4-0. The teams will attempt to conclude that game at 11 a.m. on Sunday with the series finale coming 20 minutes after the conclusion of that game.

HU improved to 27-13 on the season and 12-0 in CAA play. JMU lost its second straight to fall to 24-22 overall and 10-3 in league play.

Galati scattered four hits and a walk over a shutout effort to earn the win and improve to 20-5. Her 12 strikeouts was a season-high for an opposing pitcher against Madison this season.

JMU freshman Heather Kiefer (Potomac Falls, Va./Potomac Falls) took the loss to drop to 10-5. She limited the Pride to two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five in seven innings pitched.

Hofstra was led offensively by Galati who went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Senatore and shortstop Becca Bigler each added a hit and a run scored in three at-bats.

The Dukes only had two batters reach base in the game. Senior shortstop Ashley Burnham (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) went 3-for-3 with a trio of singles to pace the team. Sophomore third baseman Caitlin Sandy (Fayetteville, N.C./Jack Britt) chipped in a double and a walk in two plate at-bats.

Hofstra strung together three straight two out hits in the top of the third inning to grab a 2-0 lead. Senatore singled back to the pitcher to initiate the rally and moved to second on a single up the middle by Bigler. Both runners came around to score on a triple down the right-field line by Galati that landed inches inside the line.

Galati and Kiefer went toe-to-toe the rest of the way with neither pitcher allowing a runner to advance past second in the final four innings of play.

Updates on Sunday’s schedule between the two teams will be announced on JMUSports.com and over twitter by following @JMUSports as they become available.
