RICHMOND, Va., May 9, 2011 – James Madison senior catcher Katie Spitzer (Broadway, Va./Broadway) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week on Monday after helping JMU to a series win over Drexel last weekend.
Spitzer hit .778 with five extra-base hits and two walks in the three-game series. She had three double, two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs in her final weekend of collegiate action. In game two of the series, the senior recorded her first career four hit game, going 4-for-4 with a double and two home runs. The two homers gave her 20 for her career, making her just the third player in program history to reach that plateau.
Spitzer finished the season hitting .252 with nine doubles, seven home runs, 14 runs scored and 20 RBIs. She also established a new single-season record for hit-by-pitches with 10 and a career record with 21. She ranks third on the school all-time home run list with 20 and is in the top ten in RBIs.
Hofstra’s Olivia Galati was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Week while George Mason’s Tiffany Webb garnered Rookie of the Week honors.
