HARRISONBURG, Va., Aug. 12, 2013 -- Coming off a historic first season and heading into his second school year as the James Madison softball coach, Mickey Dean is bringing in a large freshman class. The Dukes have 13 new players joining the roster this fall.
Over the next week, the team will announce a handful of players each day. Today’s newcomers are utility player Haley Jones (Locust Grove, Va./Orange County) and pitcher Kelly Wishard (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough).
Jones comes to JMU from Orange County High School in Orange, Va. She is a four-time First Team All-District honoree. As a senior, Jones was named First Team All-State and First Team All-Region while helping to lead Orange County High School to the Virginia AAA State final four. She played her club ball for the Richmond Diamonds and the Williamsburg Starz.
Wishard joins JMU out of Hillsborough High School in Hillsborough, N.J. She is a two-time All-Somerset County Second Team selection. She is a Courier News All-Area honoree, including Third Team honors as a senior. She helped lead the Raiders to three straight Skyland Delaware East Conference Championships, including a Central Jersey Group IV State championship in 2013. She played her club ball for the NJ Breakers.
Coach Dean and the Dukes announce two more freshmen on Thursday, Aug. 15.
