  • Twenty-one schools and over 100 student-athletes will compete in the ITA Atlantic Regionals, hosted by Virginia Tech.
  • Six Dukes will compete in singles play. Sebastian Salinas, Brett Moorhead, Robert Stirling and Maxi Branth are in the Main Draw, while Miljan Ruzic and Niels Kathol will compete in the Qualifying Draw. Stirling/Ruzic and Salinas/Moorhead will compete in doubles play.
  • Sophomore Maxi Branth is coming off a fifth-place finish at the UVA Fall Classic and is 5-2 during the fall season.

  • The Dukes are ranked fifth in the latest NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region poll. Their RPI ranks them 36th in the nation.
  • The Seahawks are unbeaten (5-0) at home, but are 2-5 in road games.

  • JMU is competing against several top-flight teams in the Penn State Collegiate Invitational.  The women’s race will be 6,000-meters long at the Penn State Blue/White Golf Courses.
  • This will be JMU’s first time competing at Penn State since 2008 when the Dukes finished ninth out of 28 teams.
  • The Dukes last competed in the Paul Short Invitational.  Junior Tiel Westbrook had the top JMU finish in the women’s college open race, and freshman Tessa Mundell boasted the top JMU time in the women’s college gold race.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU is now 7-6 overall (1-2 in CAA) after a 6-0 shutout over Radford at home on Oct. 9.  The Dukes scored five goals in the second half from four different players.
  • The Dukes have a nine-day break between a home game against Radford and a road game at Davidson.  The next two games are the final non-conference and final road games of the 2013 regular season.
  • Redshirt sophomore Taylor West leads JMU in goals (13) and points (30).  She is seventh nationally in goals per game (1.00) and 14th nationally in points per game (2.31).
  • The Wildcats are 2-0 at home and 5-8 overall this season.  Melissa Funsten leads Davidson with seven goals and 16 points.

 Game Notes:

  • JMU enters the weekend on a two-match winning streak having beaten Towson and Delaware to close out their eight-match homestand last weekend. Freshman right side Janey Goodman was named CAA Rookie of the Week after averaging 3.00 kills per set in eight sets played.
  • Sophomore libero MacKenzie Kleespies had an excellent weekend against the Tigers and Blue Hens. She finished the weekend with 43 digs, averaging 5.38 per set. The second-year Duke finished with 20-plus digs in each match, giving her four such performances this season.
  • This is the second meeting in as many weeks between the Dukes and Seahawks. On Oct. 6, UNCW rallied from a two sets to one deficit to edge Madison 3-2 at Sinclair Gymnasium. Junior middle blocker Lizzy Briones led the team with 19 kills on .364 hitting in that match.

  • Junior Taylor Pinchoff makes her second singles appearance at the ITA Atlantic Regionals and third overall appearance.  She lost in the singles’ round-of-32 in 2012.
  • Pinchoff will team with freshman Alex Huie in the doubles bracket at the ITA Atlantic Regionals a week after the duo won the Flight ‘A’ Doubles title in Annapolis, Md.  Huie will also compete in the main draw of the singles competition.

  • Junior middle blocker Lizzy Briones ranks second in the CAA in blocks, averaging 1.31 rejections per set. On Sunday, she moved into a tie for 10th on the school's all-time block assist list with 247. She needs 15 total blocks and 17 solo blocks to show up on each of those lists as well.
  • JMU trails only UNCW in team blocks, averaging 2.50 per set. Six JMU players have recorded four or more blocks in a match, including Briones with a team-best four with nine or more.
  • The Dukes and Cougars are meeting for the third time in program history with Chareston having won each of the previous battles. The Cougars picked up a 3-1 win in Harrisonburg in the team's earlier meeting this season on Oct. 4.
