HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Oct. 16, 2013 – Playing on the road at one of the toughest venues in the conference, James Madison fell 5-2 at Hofstra in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s soccer game Wednesday night.

The Pride improved to 6-0 at Hofstra Soccer Stadium this season and is unbeaten in its last nine games at the facility dating back to last season.

Maid Memic scored a pair of goals for Hofstra (7-4-1, 2-1 CAA), which is ranked ninth in the latest NSCAA South Atlantic Region poll. Memic opened the scoring in the fifth minute and capped it with his second goal of the game and his eighth of the season in the 70th minute.

Marius Flateboe and Ignacio Gorrono also scored for the Pride, which finished with a 22-9 advantage in shots. Their other score came via an own goal.

Playing without its top goal scorer, junior Josh Grant (Plymouth, England/Torpoint College), JMU was able to hang with Hofstra’s offensive barrage in the first half and went into the locker room trailing by just one goal, 3-2.

Sophomore Eric Schmidt (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) answered Hofstra’s first score, registering his first goal of the season with a header in the 15th minute to tie the score at 1-1. Junior Tim Whitebread (McLean, Va./McLean) set Schmidt up with a cross, recording his first assist of the season.

The Pride scored the next two goals, but the Dukes again battled back, receiving a goal from sophomore Tom Fouhy (Buckinhamshire, England/Dr. Challoner’s) off an assist from senior Adam Bastidas (Catasauqua, Pa./Catasauqua) in the 37th minute. It was also Fouhy’s first goal of the season, making him one of 12 players to combine on the Dukes’ 19 goals this season.

JMU (4-7-1, 0-4 CAA) will have a 10-day break from conference play. The Dukes will host Belmont in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast free of charge on Madizone HD Sportsnet presented by the JMU Alumni Association.
