ANN ARBOR, Mich., July 1, 2013 – James Madison lacrosse alumnus Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) has landed her first coaching position as a second assistant at the University of Michigan. She joins two former Dukes at the helm of the Wolverines for their inaugural season.
Ancarrow joins Michigan head coach Jennifer Ulehla and assistant coach Jen Valore, both with ties to the JMU family. Ulehla was the Dukes’ head coach from 1994-2002, and she led the program to its first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance (2000). She also coached the Dukes to six NCAA tournament appearances and three conference titles during her tenure. Valore played for Ulehla from 1997-2000, including serving as a captain of the Final Four squad.
During her time at JMU, Ancarrow was a four-year starter and worked her way to fifth place on both the career goals (159) and career points (220) lists. Among her many accomplishments, she was a two-time Tewaaraton Award (national player of the year) nominee, a three-time All-America (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association) and a two-time conference Player of the Year.
