HARRISONNURG, Va.—James Madison University will participate in the 12th annual Colonial Athletic Association Blood Drive Challenge on Oct. 30. The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the Transitions room of Warren Hall.

Once a year, the CAA sponsors a blood challenge between all of the schools in the conference. Each institution designates one day during the fall semester to conduct a campus-wide blood drive. A count of the total donations is kept at each school. At the end of the challenge, the CAA awards the winning institution with a trophy based on the results. Students, faculty, staff and alumni are all encouraged to participate, and all participants receive a free t-shirt.

Last year the Dukes saw a 16% increase in donors from the event in 2011. Since beginning in 2002, the CAA Blood Challenge has helped to save over 110,157 lives. Last year’s conference-wide drive collected 4,613 productive units of blood from 4,381 donors.

Participants may register in advance from the Virginia Blood Services website (vablood.org) by clicking on “blood drives” and then “schedule an appointment.”  On the search page, enter zip code 22807 and find the entry for Oct. 30 JMU - CAA Blood Challenge. A list will display for available appointment times.
