HARRISONBURG, Va., April 22, 2013 -- JMU lacrosse player Casey Ancarrow (Jarrettsville, Md./John Carroll) was recognized Monday night at the fifth annual JMU Athletics Recognition Banquet.
Ancarrow was one of four finalists for JMU's Female Athlete of the Year Award.
The redshirt senior attacker currently ranks fifth all-time at JMU in goals (159) and points (220) and is tied for ninth in assists (61) and draw controls (119). In her college career she has a point in 71 of her 72 career games.
Ancarrow was voted the 2013 preseason Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year and won the 2012 CAA Player of the Year award. She was a member of the U.S. Senior Team from 2010-12, and for the third year in a row she is on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List that honors the national player of the year.
She was named to the 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-America Third Team and earned 2011 IWLCA All-South Region honors. (Ancarrow was not eligible for the 2012 IWLCA awards because her season was cut short by an injury.) She is a three-time All-CAA First Team selection.
Swimmer Eva Hannesdottir won the Female Athlete of the Year Award. Other finalists were softball player Ashley Burnham and cross country/track and field team member Katie Harman.
