HARRISONBURG, Va., Aug. 28, 2012 -- James Madison women's lacrosse coach Shelley Klaes-Bawcombe has announced the hiring of Samantha Eustace as an assistant coach in the Dukes' program.

Eustace comes to JMU from Flint Hill School, where she coached lacrosse as well as soccer and middle school basketball from 2009-12.  The school, located in Oakton, Va., produced teams that accomplished a fourth-place finish in the state and a third-place finish in the Independent School League's AA division.  Both performances were program bests at Flint Hill.

She also has coaching experience as an assistant coach from 2006-09 at St. Stephens & St. Agnes School, a program that traditionally produces many players who go on to play NCAA Division I college lacrosse.  The team was ranked number one in the country in 2008, number two in 2007 and number four in 2009.  Eustace coached two Under-19 World Cup players, 16 All-America players and nine Academic All-America players while at St. Stephens & St. Agnes.  She also served as athletic director and assistant field hockey coach at the school, located in Alexandria, Va.

Eustace also previously served as head coach of the Capital Blue club team, one of the nation's top club teams and based in the Washington, D.C., area, and she has coached with Mass Elite, which includes many of the top players in Massachusetts.

"Samantha is at the core an intense competitor who is passionate about coaching the sport of lacrosse," Klaes-Bawcombe said.  "Having lived in the suburbs of Boston and D.C., she has coached with those areas' well-respected clubs, Mass Elite and Capital. She has been exposed to those areas' strongest athletes and strongest high school coaches.

"Her championship experience as the girls' director of athletics and assistant lacrosse and field hockey coach at St. Stephens & St. Agnes in Virginia is very valuable. We feel very fortunate that Samantha wants to take her love for the game to the next level here at JMU.  She will be an excellent coach, mentor and recruiter for the JMU lacrosse program."

Eustace has also been involved with US Lacrosse's Women's Division National Tournament, which showcases the top club lacrosse players. She was a head coach and selector for Mid-Atlantic area teams for six years and for Lower New England teams for 10 years.

She was the head lacrosse and field hockey coach at Concord Academy in Concord, Mass., from 1996-06.

She played college lacrosse at the University of Massachusetts, where she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1993.

Eustace is a native of Montreal and grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
